The museum is located at the top of the fortress in Varberg with an amazing view of the sea Kattegatt. Here you will experience the cultural history of Halland together with innovative contemporary exhibitions.
Meet the Bocksten Man from the 14th century or join us on a journey back to the early 17th century when Halland still belonged to Denmark.
THE BOCKSTEN MAN
In 1936, the remains of a man were found in Bocksten’s bog, east of Varberg. It turned out to be one of Europe’s most interesting medieval finds.
WE BUILT VARBERG FORTRESS
Opens 4 June. Meet the craftsmen, farmers, skippers and many others who all contributed to the completion of the fortress after forty years of construction in 1618.
HALLAND THROUGH THE AGES
The exhibition tells the history of Halland – from 10,000 years ago to the present day.
THE HISTORY OF THE FORTRESS
Varberg Fortress was built at the top of Mount Wardberg, which at the time had a long and complicated history.
OUR REGIONAL SITES
The museum has three heritage sites in the region: Bexellska Ryggåsstugan in Varberg, the Boat Museum in Galtabäck harbour and the “Birdnest” in Vessigebro.
