Visit Halland Museum of Cultural History with your school!

Halland Museum of Cultural History and Varberg Fortress are popular destinations for school classes. Here students get to experience both engaging tours at the fortress and museum as well as practical exercises. We tailor the visit for classes and groups so that the experience becomes rewarding and interesting.

We offer tours and programs from ages 3 in preschool to high school and adult education. We tailor the tour and adapt it according to the needs of the students and the school’s courses. All our tours and programs can be adjusted for special needs schools. If visiting us on site is not an option, contact us and we will create a digital program for you.

Booking your tour

Booking is available Monday – Friday 10.00 – 12.00, at tel. 0340 – 828 30

Free entry to the museum

The museum offers free entrance for children and youths up to 19 years, as well as teachers and other educational staff in connection with school tours. A fee is added for booked tours. School classes visiting the museum need to give notice ahead of time even if they do not pay entry fees.

Customizing your visit

We plan your visit according to your needs, whether it be accomodating many classes at once, deciding what exhibitions would suit your students, or your requests for topics you’d like us to focus on during your visit. Feel free to contact us and we’ll help you.

Planning ahead of your visit

The museum is open for booked visits from schools from Tuesday – Friday between 10:00 and 12:00. Schools are also welcome during the museum’s regular hours 12:00 – 16:00. All visits are to be booked ahead of time.

Upon arriving at the museum

Always register your arrival in the museum reception. As a teacher, you are responsible for your class during the visit. Keep your students together and be considerate towards other groups at the exhibitions. Never let your students wander on their own in the museum.

Visiting the museum on your own

Always contact us ahead of time and register your planned arrival.

If you have booked a tour at the museum or the fortress

Remember to arrive at least 15 minutes before the tour starts, and begin by registering in the reception and stowing your bags.

Accessibility

To reach us you need to make your way uphill on a gravel road. The surface is somewhat uneven and some parts are cobblestone. Parking for buses is outside the fortress area. In certain circumstances it is allowed to drive up in a car or minivan. Handicap parking for vehicles with permits is available in the courtyard next to the museum. Inside the museum, elevators and wheelchair lifts are available. If you have any questions about accessibility during tours and school programs, contact us!

Bus parking

Buses can drop off and pick up students at the toll house just below the fortress, but parking there is not allowed. Parking is available along Östra hamnvägen.

Packed lunch

Packed lunch can be eaten outdoors at the fortress if the weather allows it. In case of bad weather we will always try to accomodate an indoors area for you.
