6. Halland Through the Ages
This is the starting point of the museum’s permanent exhibition, “Halland Through the Ages”. It consists of 19 themes, most of them in chronological order. From the Mesolithic through the 17th century wars and the 19th century emigration to the United States, to the beach life of the present day.
First, have a look at the large map. It shows the province of Halland both today, and through history. To the left of the map is a list of all the monarchs that have ruled Halland. Red marks the Danish kings and queens, yellow is for Swedish regents. During the period marked with green, Halland was part of an independent realm in present-day western Sweden. Northern Halland also belonged to Norway for a short time. This period is marked with blue. To the right of the map are headphones, where you may listen to various Halland dialects. Press the buttons to hear a north Halland accent, a south Halland one, and one from the fishing village of Träslövsläge.
